A Lyme question

I just found out that a friend of a friend who has had Fibro/ CFS and a variety of other problems for nearly 20 years has tested positive  for Lyme disease.  The reason she was tested was because both her boys tested positive.  They think that the boys got in during pregnancy.  Have you ever heard of that?  They are both quite young.

I am going to find out if they got special testing or????  Her doc has referred her to a specialist in Seattle.  I am a little curious about that... We are close to Portland and I am curious about them not getting treatment there....

The boys have had many infections, illnesses, etc over the years.  As has she.

Guess its time to be tested again.....

Blessings,
Elaine

  1. A very typical story, unfortunately, Elaine. Yes, most experts think it can be passed along in utero.

The tough thing for her (and the same for my own teen son) is that it's impossible to tell how much of her symptoms are due to CFS/FM and how much due to Lyme or how long she's had it. The good news is that she should eventually improve with treatment, though the treatment itself can be very long and difficult if the infection has been there a long time.

All three of them should also get tested for the other common tick-borne illnesses - bartonella, babesia, ehrlichia, rocky mountain spotted fever, etc. that might have been passed along in the tick bite with the Lyme. You can't get rid of Lyme without treating the others as well (if you have them).
